Thanks for providing all these perspectives. As a creativity coach, I am forever encountering people who assume that what I do does not apply to them because they aren't engaged in the arts or don't see themselves as having talent.

My definition of creativity is much more broad. To me, it is not the just domain of artists, "right brainers," Nobel Prize winners, and Apple employees. I think you're being creative any time you solve a problem in any domain in a way that you didn't learn from someone else.

I think it's important to recognize that much of what we do is creative because creativity stirs up predictable responses from the creator that routine tasks do not. The ambiguity of the solution can make people question themselves and the quality of their work, which can lead to resistance, avoidance, etc. If a person doesn't recognize that they are involved in a creative activity and that those responses are a normal part of the process, they can become discouraged.

As the Amazon summary notes, "...uncertainty can lead to fear, anxiety, paralysis, and destruction. It can gut creativity and stifle innovation." Addressing this topic is of real value for creative people.

This is a beautiful article of friendship and support. These methods of creativity, using the vision board are widely useful not only in this context, but also something I believe in for stress management, as well through another creative medium called visualization. I'm glad you offer such creative ideas which are so useful in a vast myriad of ways!

Great ideas. I find that many folks regularly overlook #2 - "Be active." Somehow exercise doesn't seem as creative as digging in and "doing" something. But the rhythmic motion and the sense of fun in many forms of activity can spark great ideas. One thing I'll add (which can be helpful after exercise!) is "take a shower!" Ideas flow when we STOP trying to think of them and oftentimes that happens in the shower.
